Interviewer – Tell us a little about yourself (i.e. your Education, Experience, and Family Background)

Rami Mornel – I grew up in a small town where basketball was more than just a sport, it was a way of life. My passion for the game led me to pursue a degree in Sports Management, where I learned the ins and outs of both business and athletics. 

After graduating, I dabbled in various entrepreneurial ventures while simultaneously honing my coaching skills on the court. My family has always been my biggest support system, encouraging me to chase my dreams and pursue my passions.

Interviewer – Please tell us a little about your entrepreneurial journey

Rami Mornel – My entrepreneurial journey has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, but ultimately incredibly rewarding. I’ve launched several businesses, from sports academies to tech startups, each teaching me valuable lessons about resilience, innovation, and the importance of teamwork.

Interviewer – What inspired you to pursue entrepreneurship and coaching basketball simultaneously?

Rami Mornel – The thrill of building something from the ground up and the desire to make a positive impact on young athletes’ lives were the driving forces behind my decision to pursue both entrepreneurship and coaching basketball. I saw an opportunity to merge my love for the game with my business acumen, creating a unique path where I could not only coach but also empower others through entrepreneurship.

Rami Mornel – Balancing the demands of running a business and coaching basketball is no easy feat, but it all comes down to effective time management and prioritisation. I’ve learned to delegate tasks where necessary, surround myself with a reliable team, and stay organised to ensure I can give my full attention to both aspects of my life.

Rami Mornel – One memorable experience was when I applied my marketing expertise to promote our basketball team’s fundraiser. By leveraging social media campaigns and strategic partnerships with local businesses, we were able to exceed our fundraising goals, showcasing the power of entrepreneurship in amplifying our team’s success.

Rami Mornel – I approach coaching with a strategic mindset, applying business strategies such as goal-setting, performance evaluation, and team collaboration to enhance our on-court performance. Rami Mornel – One of the biggest challenges has been time management and finding the right balance between my entrepreneurial ventures and coaching responsibilities. However, by setting clear priorities, establishing routines, and staying adaptable, I’ve been able to navigate these challenges and find harmony between my dual passions.

Rami Mornel – There was a time when our basketball team faced a string of injuries right before a crucial playoff game. Ultimately, we not only overcame the obstacles but also emerged victorious, showcasing the power of resilience and innovation in both business and sports.

From using analytics to analyse player performance and optimise game strategies to leveraging technology to streamline business operations and enhance customer experiences, I’m constantly seeking innovative ways to leverage data-driven insights to drive success in both realms.

Rami Mornel – My advice would be to embrace the unique intersection of entrepreneurship and sports coaching as an opportunity for growth and innovation. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box, leverage your diverse skill set, and seek out mentorship and resources to help you navigate the challenges and maximise your impact in both arenas.

I prioritise tasks based on urgency and importance, set realistic goals, and maintain open communication with my team and players to ensure alignment and balance across all aspects of my life.
